Milos – Weight Verification solution

18 May 2016

pesaThe International Maritime Organization (IMO) has amended the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) to require, as a condition for loading a packed container into a ship for export, that the container has a verified weight. The shipper is responsible for the verification of the packed container’s weight. This requirement is going to be legally effective on July 1, 2016. After that date, it would be a violation of SOLAS to load a packed container onto a vessel if the vessel operator and marine terminal operator do not have a verified container weight.

Circle provides MILOS Weight Verification, specifically developed for shippers and inland terminals (available also for port terminals), which allows full digitally managing the container Verified Gross Mass weighing process and to exchange this relevant information with stakeholders involved.

MILOS Weight Verification is composed by a mobile software for managing weighing operational activities by using mobile devices such as tablets, palmtops etc., and a server module for the registration process and to exchange information by using specific connectors. The latter allows the exchange of weighing information with IT systems of stakeholder involved (Inland and Port Terminals, Port Authorities, Shipping Agents, Shipping Companies).

The full digital weighting procedure can include also a digital signature and vehicle’s surface measurement functionalities (length, width, height).
